5 Distractors of the Detection Dog
DEFINITIONS
- Detection Dog – A trained dog that uses their nose to notify a handler of the presence of a trained odor.
- Distractor – Anything that elicits an unwanted behavior and takes away from the task at hand.
- Stimuli – Anything that elicits or triggers a behavior.
- Brain Context – The context that is built around a stimuli
- Successive Approximation – Stair step method. Breaking training down to small steps that start at the bottom and work their way to the top (goal).
- Threshold – Amount of stimuli needed to elicit a behavior.
- Stimulus Response Theory – Pairing of stimuli and behaviors using positive reinforcement (.5-1.5 seconds of the behavior)
- Reward – A Real thing. Has lasting power. Can be controlled.
